Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained
Are you considering adoption but have many questions and fears?
Don’t be afraid to ask the questions. You may feel that some of the things you are feeling are things you don’t want to admit to. Many fear they will discover after they’ve adopted that they don’t have love for a child they didn’t give birth to. Relax. Most people find this vanishes the first minute they see the little face of the child.
Bonding tends to happen naturally as you take on the task of parenting. Usually when something or someone is yours, one takes ownership. Within the first couple of days my son was as much mine as if I’d given birth.
So, when all is said and done, the thing that most adoptive parents fear or struggle with is the fear that the birth mother will change her mind. It was such a relief when the adoption agency called and told me that the birth mom had given up her rights to our son. I would love to tell you that such a scenario never occurs, but I can’t.
My advice is this. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
